Laura Szalacha, Ed.D, is a Professor at USF Health; Morsani College of Medicine and the College of Nursing at the University of South Florida. She was trained in human development and psychology, as well as quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methodologies. She has extensive experience as a statistician on longitudinal studies of health disparities, working particularly with underserved minority and marginalized populations (i.e., Puerto Rican development across the lifespan, Adolescent LGBT health). Her intervention study experiences include studies of breast, cervical, and colon cancer screening among South Asian immigrants, Korean Americans, and American Veterans; nurse managed care and STIs with low-income African American females, and acculturation among immigrants from the former Soviet Union. Laura is also trained in program evaluation methods and has designed and carried out academic evaluations (i.e., Harvard Medical School curriculum, T32 programs), community engagement projects, and medical clinics (i.e., Nurse-Led Collaborative Professional Practice Clinic) using mixed methods for each of them.
