Dr. Evans serves as the Chief Officer, Connected Care for the Veterans Health Administration. Under his leadership, the Office of Connected Care is dedicated to improving services to Veterans, their families and caregivers – using digital and remote technologies to increase access to care, foster continuity of care, and promote patient engagement. Dr. Evans is an internal medicine physician and clinical informaticist who cares for patients at the Washington DC VA Medical Center and in addition, he recently served as the Interim Director of the Federal Electronic Health Record Modernization (FEHRM) Program Office, where he is now a Senior Advisor.
Dr. Evans began his VA career after earning his medical degree (MD) at Johns Hopkins University and completing a residency in Internal Medicine through the Johns Hopkins Osler Medical Residency Program. Dr. Evans also received a B.ChE. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware. He holds a faculty appointment in Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is board certified in internal medicine and clinical informatics and is a fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (FAMIA). He was also honored in 2020 with a Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal, also known as the “Oscars” of the federal government, in the Management Excellence category
